10th Annual Juried Print Exhibition
December 2, 2022 - January 28, 2023
Remarque’s annual juried print exhibition each December is an incredible opportunity to see contemporary prints from around the world, and to see the unexpected common threads running through this collection of pieces that were made in such remote places, by such different people.
This year, we have art from twenty-one states and six different countries, including Finland, Spain, Italy, Ireland, Mexico, and Canada. The breadth of subject matter is impressive, and yet the pieces still speak to each other in meaningful ways. Douglas Barrett’s risograph print “Near Selma” carries the distinct feeling of rural Alabama, yet it meshes seamlessly with Bernadette Madden’s “Warm Day”—a colorful, abstracted view of an Irish landscape. Egor Shokoladov’s hand-colored etching “Traveler” looks as if it was designed to pair with Kate Borcherding’s “Summer of Movement” – the palettes, the subject matter, and the atmosphere of the two prints blend perfectly, despite being made by two artists who have never met or heard of each other. We have a series of 5 soft relief prints that mesh so harmoniously they create an almost continuous scene – the pale cast that the sky takes on in winter, dry grasses blowing in the wind, mist settling over a river, snow on fallen trees—and yet they were created on opposite sides of the globe. It’s a nice reminder that art is and always has been a way of bringing people together, and even though we have hundreds of different cultures and languages around the world, we all share a common—if unique—vocabulary in visual art.
All prints are sold unframed unless otherwise noted - if you would like to purchase a piece framed, please email us
