Introduction to the Marvelous Collagraph
In this one-day introductory class we will explore the many possibilities of the collagraph print. Collagraphs are beautiful, often experimental prints made from collaging textured items onto a matboard or similar surface, then sealing it and applying inks to print it onto paper.
This is a very inexpensive, flexible and rewarding technique that results in rich, textured prints. This class is suitable for anyone interested in expanding their printmaking repertoire- no experience necessary, but certainly a great technique for any printmaker to incorporate into their work. Collagraphs can be easily combined with other techniques such as monotype and gravure, or stand proudly alone.

Nothing quite beats the rich, velvety tones of aquatint--but not every printmaker has access to rosin boxes and airbrushes to create aquatint tone on plates!
Silk aquatint is a collagraph (collage printmaking) approach that provides lush, amazing tonal quality with a few handy materials. In this focused class, we will produce silk aquatint plates using plexiglass, screenprinting mesh, acrylic paint and acrylic medium.
Students will learn how to build a plate, create tone, make marks, ink, wipe and print. Silk aquantint plates can be printed with oil and water-based inks, and can even be combined with other printmaking plates and methods--like etching, relief, screenprinting and collagraph.
