How it Works
Our new pop-up classes allow you to design your own experience - you choose your classmates, the printmaking method you want to learn about, and even the date and time of the class. Our hope is that this new flexibility will provide a safe environment for people to learn and experience new things, an opportunity that is ever harder to come by these days.
Each class will follow safety guidelines designed to keep the students and instructor safe -- increased airflow, mandatory mask-wearing, spaced-out tables, and the classroom and entire facility is cleaned on a regular basis with virus-killing isopropyl alcohol.
These classes are offered at a fixed price of $195 + tax for a 2.5 hour long session, and you can bring up to five classmates in total -- friends, family, anyone you feel comfortable with. Then, choose the printmaking subject you would like to learn about (the three choices are detailed below), and choose a date and time. The classes are offered every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, and you can choose to have it in the morning, afternoon, or evening. The class price includes all inks, tools, and materials, and each student also gets one large sheet of paper, which can be divided into 4 or 8 smaller pieces.

Class Options
Milk Carton Drypoint:
An intro to the inexpensive and amazing art of drypoint etching. This class requires no experience! Wait! Don't toss that milk carton. Bring it to class to learn a fun, surprisingly sophisticated printmaking technique known as Milk Carton Drypoint. Drypoint is an acid-free, non-toxic intaglio technique, in which an image is incised into a plate using a sharp or hard-tipped tool, like an etching needle, X-acto knife, wooden sticks or even nails and tacks. The plate is inked up and printed on a printing press, resulting in a beautiful, rich image with lush plate tone and bold lines. Milk Carton drypoint is special because the plate isn't metal like traditional drypoint, it's literally pieces cut from milk carton board! In this pop-up class, you'll learn how to cut and shape plates, how to create areas of continuous tone and fine lines, and best of all, how to ink and print these little beauties! |
Stamp-Repeat-Stamp:
An intro to relief printmaking. Design and make your own original prints, cards or gifts! This class requires no experience - just a desire to try out some relief printmaking. Participants will create a small image by carving a design into linoleum or soft cut (an easier-to-carve alternative to linoleum). Then we will use of variety of printing and stamping techniques to create original pieces, collaged work, cards, altered book pages and more. Participants could make a series of handmade cards, a multi-layered collage, or just come to explore the exciting possibilities of using small scale imagery in surprising combinations! |
Monotype Madness:
Roll or brush ink onto a plate! Take some off! Print it! Put more on! Print it again! A trained instructor will stand ready to assist as you become a prolific producer of prints during two and a half hours of Monotype Madness. Monotype printmaking is accessible to all, and is perhaps the most painterly and spontaneous form of printmaking. You will use a printing press to transfer painted, stamped, stenciled or drawn designs from a plate to paper and create as many unique images as possible. Don’t miss this chance to experience the liberating and versatile medium of monotype printmaking! We will work with high-quality, water-based Akua-Kolor inks. |
