Relief printmaking is often characterized by graphic linework and the collapsing of the field of depth. That ‘flatness’ is one of the many appealing features of prints. However, depth can be a powerful tool for introducing dynamism and narrative into our images and encourage our eyes to travel through the worlds we create. In this workshop, students will explore techniques typically associated with landscape painting to instill depth and the interplay of light in our images. We’ll ‘work small’ with multiple linoleum plates & Caligo Safewash Inks. By experimenting with value, contrast, hue, shape and texture, we’ll expand our creative range of expression and have some fun.
Experience with linocut is helpful but not necessary.
