Drypoint Intaglio

This class is perfect for illustrators and people who love to draw who want to learn about printmaking. Drypoint is an acid-free, non-toxic intaglio technique that's been around since the 1400s. Images are incised into a plate using a sharp or hard-tipped tool, like an etching needle, creating sharp lines with fuzzy, velvety edges. The plate is inked up like a traditional etching plate, and printed on a printing press, resulting in a beautiful, rich image with bold lines. Various kinds of plates can be used, and we'll explore drypoint on copper, Plexiglas and milk carton.

We will cover common materials used as drypoint plates (plexi glass and metal), how to make marks, building and developing tones and lines, inking, wiping, and printing your plates. Experienced printmakers may bring in etching plates from previous projects and learn how to add drypoint lines to them! No experience necessary and beginners are welcome!
