Linocut is one of the best entries into the magic of printmaking. Carving into, well, yes, linoleum, creates sharp imagery that is in essence a stamp to be printed. Linocut lends itself well to all sorts of imagery- from landscape to portrait, and beyond. This one-day workshop will cover the basics of linocut relief printing while also exploring the wide range of possibilities offered by this medium. Linocuts can be bold and graphic, or minimalist, or delicate and detailed. We will learn different carving and shading techniques that lend themselves to these various styles, and we'll also learn how to edition (print an identical series of) a one-layer linocut print. Each student will create a 5"x7" one-layer linocut, and will have the option to print them as cards as well. No experience is necessary - this will be a fun, exciting class for all levels.
