Experiments in Layers, Mark Making and More! Mixed media painting on pellon with muralist Roberto Salas - June 8, 2019
Instructor: Roberto Salas
Dates: June 8, 10:00 am- 5:00pm
Cost: $120 + tax (includes most materials!)
Invented in 1948, pellon is a nonwoven interfacing that is lightweight, flexible and durable. It provides an excellent, versatile and inexpensive material for painting on that can be used on a small personal scale or monumental scale for making murals.
Pellon can be worked in the studio and then applied and sealed on walls with a gel medium. When working large scale this allows an artist to work in the studio and then apply the painted pellon to the desired wall. On a small scale pellon can be mounted on boards or panels of various shapes or hung directly on walls for gallery exhibition.
In this workshop we will learn surface preparations for the pellon and work in a multi-media fashion with materials such as gesso, acrylic paint, coffee staining and charcoal using stencils and collage to create multi-layered pieces.
Roberto is an internationally recognized muralist and painter. He has worked on projects all over the world and is currently based in San Diego and El Paso. Learn more at http://robertosalas.com/about.htm
