Monotype on Asian Paper: Drawing through Print with Sarah Smelser
Monotype has traditionally been associated with a painted mark. Artists such as Maurice Prendergast, Eric Fischl, and Michael Mazur used a brush to make images that had the presence of a painting but the process of a print.
This workshop will introduce monotype as a vehicle of drawing rather than painting. Participating artists will explore hard-edged forms and line, using stencils and various drawing implements. We will print on the intaglio press and by hand, learn about color and ink modification, use ghost printing, explore trace monotype, using dry Asian paper.
Beginners and experienced printmakers are welcome and are encouraged to bring source material/sketches to use as a springboard. Class schedule allows for demonstration, discussion, trouble-shooting and work time.
