Gelli Printing Workshop

Gelli Printing Basics (and a little beyond)
Never printed? Don’t have a press? Worried about making the wrong mark? No problem. Gelli plate printing is a no-stress process that allows beginners a means to create an array of fabulous patterned and textured monoprints in no time. At the same time, seasoned printmakers can revel in its portability, versatility and move quickly into creating complex artworks.
A gelli plate is a squishy slab of a gelatin-like substance. The gelli print process involves rolling or painting ink or acrylic onto the surface and then stamping, stenciling or masking areas into the color to produce a monoprint (a unique, one of a kind print.) The piece can be further manipulated with layers of color and additional marks. We will learn how to layer color and use stencils and masks. We will also create our own tools and masks from easily accessible and inexpensive items including credit cards, kitchen items, foam, leaves, and many other materials. We will create stacks of rich, complex, and innovative works of art. You will also receive insight into how to rescue “failed” prints and further uses for your patterned papers.
