Intro to Screen Print:
Class Dates: Nov. 6-7, 2021 (10am-5pm with a lunch break)
This introductory workshop teaches students the fundamentals of screen printing. Over the course of two days, we will cover the variety of uses for screen print, materials (ink, paper, process supplies), tools and the print process. The first day, students learn how to prepare and process screens using the Remarque studio facilities. We will discuss various screen print methods, how to plan a print project, and review printed matter. On day two, we work in the studio with the print work station and practice the print processes learned from day one. Each student will create a one color print using basic stencil methods and get hands-on experience printing their own screen. (If time allows, students will have the option to print a second color on their print.)
Participants will learn:
- Basic processes of screen printing
- Learn about different process supplies
- Coating, exposing and processing screens
- Different methods for creating imagery on screens
- Print a one color image from a pre-processed screen
Screen printed posters and books will be available for review. A brief talk of the history of screen print will be included during the workshop. A share back discussion will happen at the end to chat about the work created, experiences and address questions
Intermediate Screen Print:
Class Dates: Nov. 13-14, 2021 (10am-5pm with a lunch break)
The two day workshop focuses on a variety of historic and contemporary processes for creating artwork. We will review different prints and discuss how they were created. The first day, each participant will plan a print, create their own artwork/stencil, prepare and process their own screens to be print ready. On the second day, everyone will setup a print run ready by mixing and proofing inks, preparing the print substrate and setting up the press. Participants will work together to print and assist on each print run. Each student will get hands-on experience printing a processed screen. Everyone is encouraged to bring their own tools, materials and share their knowledge.
Take away from the workshop:
