Need a break from your computer? Step away for a weekend to work with your hands creating type-based posters.
This workshop focuses on the use of historic and contemporary hand done processes. We will create imagery for a poster design with an emphasis on using type to engage and inform the audience. The first day, we explore different processes for creating artwork/stencils, sketch up ideas for a poster and plan the print project. Each participant will create their own artwork/stencil, prepare and process their own screens to be print ready. On the second day, we dive into printing and everyone will work together to collaborate and assist on the printing. Everyone is encouraged to bring their own tools, materials and share their knowledge. Working knowledge of the screen print processes and the Remarque studio facility is highly recommended.
Workshop will cover:
• Creating type for poster using hand done methods
• Focus on designing in the poster format
• Explore different methods for creating imagery
• Create multiple color posters
• Review screenprint posters
• Down n’ dirty, git ‘er done wild post printing
Screenprinted posters and books will be available for review. A brief talk of the rich history of screenprint will be included during the workshop. A share back discussion will happen at the end to chat about the work created, experiences and address any questions.
