Edie Overturf and Nick Satinover are artists whose work separately utilizes narrative tropes and structural strategies to analyze and question the authority of storytelling and observations of their respective environments. Thoroughly rooted in printmaking practice, they each use a variety of processes to craft works that feature contrast and present text in new, poetic ways. Within their collaborative works, Overturf and Satinover combine their unique modes of image making and utilize strategic, collaborative approaches for each project, each analyzing the nature of narrative, place and text relationships. They use various trading procedures that force adoption and translation of materials and references. They combine oppositional visual devices and present a dichotomy of real versus invented spaces.
The interplay between past, present, imagined and real collides in images that assemble various visual languages and differing levels of abstraction. Through the printed materials generated in collaboration, Overturf and Satinover present known fictions in new formal structures which seek to deepen the analysis of the stories we read and the tales we tell ourselves.
