Annual Juried Residency at Remarque
Remarque hosts one juried residency annually.
- During the residency, five artists from around the country are selected to join us for one week of intensive printmaking work in our 3,000 sq. ft non-toxic printmaking facility.
- We aim to support the artists as they explore their own printmaking processes as well as collaborate with the other residents on techniques, concepts and projects.
- Residents are invited to share their work with each other and the Remarque community in an evening of presentations.
- We try to arrange tours of local printmaking resources (Takach and Tamarind Institute) depending on availability
Residents are selected through a call on CAFE, which normally opens at the beginning of each year.

Week-Long Studio Retreat at Remarque
Remarque Print Workshop announces a new week-long Studio Retreat opportunity!
We are happy to open our beautiful new studio to a wider community of selected artists for a seven day studio retreat.* Chosen artists will have use of our studio for a full week of their choosing to pursue a print making project of their own design. The staff and owners of Remarque will provide a thorough orientation on the use of our studio equipment including the etching presses, silk-screen equipment, exposure unit (for making plates and screens) and etching set-up. We will also be available throughout the week for consultation and conversation to facilitate the development of the project. Use of the studio is unrestricted and artists will have access to the space 24 hours a day. Residents will also be able to interact and collaborate with the local members of our studio community. Specialized instruction in the various techniques offered at Remarque can also be arranged in advance of the retreat week for an additional fee.
- The retreat can be scheduled for dates that are convenient to the artist, and applications will be accepted on a rolling admissions basis. If artists wish to come with other artist friends, we can accommodate small groups as well.
- The fee for the retreat is $500 which includes complete studio access, use of a flat file, locker, all equipment and Akua inks (other selected inks such as Caligo safe wash etching and relief inks are available as well). Paper can be purchased at affordable prices as needed during the week or artists can bring their own papers. In addition the marvelous Takach Press Company and store is just down the street from us and offers a vast range of printmaking supplies and papers.
- Participants have the opportunity to offer a short presentation of their work which will be open to the studio community and friends of Remarque. (This is optional)
- Participants are responsible for their own accommodations; the Remarque staff can provide a list of air B&Bs and hotels that are nearby.
- Most applicants with sufficient experience will be accepted but Remarque reserves the right to select artists whose goals are compatible with our facility and mission.
TO APPLY:
- We ask the submitting artists to fill out a form in which they will need to provide a brief proposal describing their objectives for the week with an indication of the types of processes and materials they are planning to use. We also ask for 3- 5 images of past work that are pertinent to the week’s objective, and a description of prior printmaking experience.
- To be clear, this retreat is not free, and it does have a cost. We have a week-long, highly competitive Annual Juried Residency once a year in May in which 5 artists are selected to come work at the same time for no cost.
