Explore two approaches to monotype printmaking in this hands-on workshop taught by veteran printmaker, Mary Sundstrom-Gramer. We'll begin with painterly monotypes printed on dry paper, using brushes, brayers, and other tools to create layered images with expressive marks and textures.
The second half of the workshop focuses on watercolor monotypes printed on wet paper, a less common process that produces soft transitions, transparent color, and distinctive printed effects. You'll learn how paper moisture, pigment, and pressure work together to create unique images that are difficult to achieve with other printmaking techniques.
Over the course of the workshop you'll learn plate preparation, inking and painting methods, printing techniques, and ways to build layered compositions by combining both processes. This workshop is suitable for painters, printmakers, and anyone interested in expanding their printmaking practice. No previous printmaking experience is required.
