Discover your unique visual vocabulary in this immersive 3-day workshop focused on the fluid and spontaneous world of monotype printmaking. Utilizing soy-based Akua Intaglio Inks, participants will learn to bridge the gap between painting and print while developing an individual aesthetic voice. The workshop begins on Day 1 by laying out watercolor washes on Yupo paper to dry, followed by an afternoon learning additive and subtractive monotype basics. On Day 2, we move to the press to reactivate the dried Yupo paintings onto damp paper and introduce the structural grit of drypoint etching, using needles to incise sharp, velvety lines. The workshop culminates on Day 3 with the practice of additional layering and the introduction of the crayon-like textures of trace monotype—produced by rolling ink onto parchment paper and drawing on the back to transfer the mark. By balancing the precision of etched lines with the organic softness of watercolor and trace marks, you will learn to merge these diverse techniques into a cohesive personal style that reflects your authentic artistic "hand." All experience levels welcome!
